El lapislázuli es una roca metamórfica compuesta principalmente por lazurita, junto con calcita blanca, pirita dorada y, ocasionalmente, sodalita o diopsido. Su color azul intenso, con reflejos dorados y vetas claras, lo ha convertido desde la antigüedad en una de las piedras más admiradas del mundo. Con una dureza de entre 5 y 5,5 en la escala de Mohs, combina una textura suave con una apariencia majestuosa.
