La amatista es la variedad violeta del cuarzo (SiO₂), cuyo color se debe a la presencia de trazas de hierro en la estructura cristalina y a la acción de radiación natural durante su crecimiento. En ejemplares de grado AA, el violeta se presenta bien definido y atractivo, con buena saturación y brillo vítreo.
